My daughter is 12 years old and in 7th grade. She's never really enjoyed running, but does a 7:30 mile when timed in PE class. She's always planned to run track when she got old enough, too, which makes mommy proud.
She's currently attempting softball. Turns out, she doesn't like it much. I do require that she do something physical. If you don't play softball this fall, you can't take PE because you have band and choir taking up your two allowed electives. You'll have to start going to the Y with me after school. Her solution is to see if it's too late to join the cross country team. They are three weeks in. While she hasn't been running, per se, she has been working out for 3 weeks with the softball team and it includes a longer run at the beginning of practice and then sprints at the end of practice.
I offered to help her train for track in the spring. Figured it would get her ready for that season and let her out of softball.
She apparently didn't realize the distance involved in cross country. I told her how far the courses are. After the shock wore off, I offered to take her out for a run last night to let her experience it herself.
We set out just after 8 last night. 3.36 miles later we returned home. She beat me by 15 seconds, although neither of us was trying real hard or anything. It was truly about covering the distance for her, as she's never done more than a mile. I simply used my GPS to keep us on an even pace. She admitted she enjoyed it and the distance seemed easy when doing it with someone. We thoroughly enjoyed that time together.
Hopefully she has a good conversation with the cross country coach today.

Next week's TV guide has a three-story spread on Grey's. There is a lot of info on the upcoming season, but this caught my eye:
( Cut for spoilers )
Because I feel lonely at the disappearance of several fandoms (TV, etc...) during the summer break:
The You are the ______ to my _____ Meme
pimp away and share the love with your fellow fangirls/(or boys :P)
let's see some mer/der, or maybe find our old love Addek? :D
PS: I hope this post is allowed, otherwise delete it :)

Am I the only one who thinks that this picture of Ricky Martin looks like Justin Chambers?
What is considered a good pace?
I ran 5 miles in 47:20 yesterday.
Is that considered good? Or am I just mediocre/average?

Title ; Only Women Bleed
Paring ; Addison, Pete, Mark, Meredith, Chief, Derek, the little munchkin, reference to Addison/Derek
Rating ; R- Drug abuse
Disclaimer: Not Mine, At All
Summary: She smiles to herself as Pete carries the tiny infant in his arms, cooing her and blowing in her face. Okay she's not an infant, NOT EVEN CLOSE, but the proud mom refuses to believe how fast she's growing up. Addison smirks to herself as Burke play checkers. Her name is Alexis Montgomery Shepherd and she is the most beautiful thing on this planet. Sequel to 'The Trembling Art Of You
All mistakes are my own.

So, I've been dabbling here and there with different short stories, trying to get into some better writing habits - but I was just wondering what everyone's opinions were on points of view both in reading and writing. First or third POV, which do you prefer working with, and which do you prefer for entertainment purposes? And why?

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this. I overpronate, and I always wear orthotics when I run; I have noticed that in most running stores, the salesperson will remove the insert out of the shoe so that I can put my orthotic in when I'm trying the shoes on (rather than just putting the orthotic on top of the shoe's normal insert)
So, my question is, if I'm not supposed to run with BOTH the orthotic AND the shoe's natural insert in at the same time, than does it matter what type of shoe I actually get (as long as it feels comfortable)? I always thought that the primary differences between running shoes were a) the general shape, and b) how much arch support the shoe had. However, if I'm just supposed to use orthotics and remove the arch support from the shoe, then could I theoretically just buy a "neutral" shoe, or should I still be looking for shoes geared toward overpronators?
Also, on a somewhat related note; my arches have been feeling unusually sore for the last few weeks. I didn't know if this might be a signal that I'm wearing the wrong types of shoes, or whether it simply means it's about time to replace my running shoes?
Thanks. :)

This was started long, long time ago like November of 1999 and I have just found it in my files. I know I don't have much of it but it is a very short chapter. I'm not even sure if I will even finish it. I may just take my time with it and finish it when I can.
But here it is.
Fiction: Deer of Ha Ha Tonka.
Author: Beth Brownell
Chapter: One and that's a partial of it.
Genre: Maybe young adult, not sure.
Topic: Life in the wild with the deer.
Think Disney's Bambi but with much more death and decisions done by the main characters. And yes, Ha Ha Tonka is a real place, it is a State Park in Camdenton, Missouri.
( Here is the story. )
So I know it most likely needs work as it is one of my older works. I'm going to try to work on this story even if I don't really finish it all in one year, it will be an ongoing work for me. :)

well, in the south, they call the blooming things tennis shoes. Seriously? 12 years down here and I'm still not used to hearing "tennis shoes" when people mean "sneakers". Weird.
Anyway, I have clodhoppers. Great, big enormous feet. I'd put big foot to shame. And no, the dumb @sses in Georgia did not have a legitimate big foot and no I do not want to discuss the redneck trash that lives in my state.
So I have new SNEAKERS.
They are men's sneakers.
They are 10D. (9 UK, 44 EUR 28CM)
Told you my feet are huge.
Oh well, they fit, they feel good, they're not dirty yet.
Done.
And to think, when i was 16, the thought of wearing men'stennis shoes sneakers would have resulted in irrational sobbing and boohooing. Gotta love growing old.

I ran my very first 10-minute mile today. Okay, it was 10 minutes and 2 seconds, but I don't care. I know that sounds slow, but considering it took me a full 12 minutes and 50 seconds just two weeks ago today, I am pretty darn proud.
Haha, if I could get three minutes faster every two weeks, I'd be beating Bolt's records in NO time!

This will be my third attempt at posting this, I cannot get the hang of the cut. I am a technological retard, betcha couldn't tell. If this isn't right I'm just going to post it in my journal and tell everyone where it is. Reaper...take 3!

Hi Everyone,
This is my very first post in here I believe.
I'd appreciate any comments, ideas, and opinions.
REFLECTION IN SAND
She was born with sad eyes
With the light fearing her glance
Their reflection lost in her gaze
Fine, red, vein-like lines tear apart her sight
Breaking the reflection of everything she sees
Her tears dry up as they age from the journey
And become the sand
She's forgotten how to smile
Her dry hands blend in with the sand
She looks into a small pond
She sees no reflection
The dusty air stifles her breath
And she wonders,
What good would breathing do
If all she'll get is a mouthful of sand
